Multi-Colored Rock --

--from the Multi-colored section.

This water-polished surface is a natural work of art. This siliceous mudstone may have been in deep water but there's little visible to describe it's old history.

It gets five points for lovely colors. Posted by Picasa

Squiggly Rock #1

Dina found several of these loopy samples (about 5 cm wide).

The folding traces the history of movement within a small part of a thin zone overridden by the ophiolite.

Which way did it go? Posted by Picasa

Flat Peridotite Cobble

This cobble is about 20 cm in diameter and about 3 cm thick. The water scoured it so nicely to show bands of pyroxene (black to grey-green multicrystalline zones) and dunite (dull green stripes) that date to movement within the earth's mantle.

Flowing water exposed flowing mantle.

That's cool. Posted by Picasa
