Fault Breccia

I know, because I took it out of the fault, myself.

A fault along the Aliakmon below Mikroklisoura that shows ductile and brittle behavior.

The largest fragment is about 1 cm sq. Note the angular shapes and chaotic range of sizes of the clasts. The matrix seems to be re-welded serpentine / silicic material.

Odd that there's so little appearance of movement in the gauge.

Yes, Virginia, folds do have axial planes.

This 3 cm white band in mylonitic carbonates from the Aliakmon Valley, is folded.
But wonders of wonders, fine late veins of carbonate are filling in axial planar spaces.

It works just like the textbooks say it works!

Pencil Shear

On the left, a pencil.
On the righ, a pencil shear.

The pencil tastes a lot better to chew on than the shear.
